Thanksgiving 1

For the woman who’s heart I managed to steal
And the child were waiting for
The home we are making and the life we are living
The God we are praising and the family He’s given
The love we are making and the time we were waiting

When we didn’t and couldn’t belong to each other
And grappled and battled until we were done
With all of the struggle and loneliness and hurting
Of being so close to the one picked for us
Yet unable to accept until our sight was restored

When I sat all alone and wondered if I’d always be
Such silly thoughts for a boy of nineteen
When you feel so sure and unsure of mortality
And the next day is a lifetime because you could die tonight
And you’re alone or with friends who are all there for you

But I’m not alone now and for this
I am truly thankful.
